    FAQs

    Why is this recall happening?

We identified that in some Guard Rail braces there is insufficient strength in the operation of the spring of the trigger mechanism to ensure that the yellow hook locking mechanism engages as designed. The risk is that the yellow hook mechanism can become dislodged from the scaffold frame.

    How did this happen?

The company was alerted to this specific issue in relation to an identified batch. Our top priority of customer safety, and the production of high-quality products, has led Oldfields to recall any products containing this mechanism manufactured from November, 2020 and bought from December 15, 2020.

    What Oldfields product are affected?

The brace which has been identified to have the spring mechanism issue is used on the following Oldfields products:

    • 2600 Series
    • Zippy-Scaff
    • Mini Zippy-Scaff

A full list can be found here.

    What is the hazard?

If the Guard Rail brace detaches from the frame there is a risk of injury of a fall from height or damage to property.

Is there any danger if I don’t get this fixed?

We want to ensure everyone’s safety and would recommend inspection. If the Guard Rail brace detaches from the frame there is a risk of injury of a fall from height or damage to property.

Has anyone else been hurt using the product?

Not to our knowledge.  However, we want to ensure everyone’s safety and would recommend inspection. If the Guard Rail brace detaches from the frame there is a risk of injury of a fall from height or damage to property.

Is there a cost to me?

    No there will not be.

I have this brace, but the mechanism appears to work. What should I do?

We advise against using any products that are part of the recall, even if they appear to be functioning correctly. Safety is our top priority, and we recommend following the recall instructions.

    Can I get a refund?

The affected product is a component of a larger system, hence why the recall process provides for the replacement of the spring mechanism in the yellow Guard Rail brace hook component.

What if I am using my mobile tower?

Please get in touch with us and we will do our best to provide a replacement brace from our new fleet while your brace undergoes replacement.

I have a Pro Series Tower, is this affected?

No, our Pro Series range uses a different locking mechanism and is therefore completely safe and not impacted.

I want to buy a new Mobile tower, what should I do?

Rest assured that all new stock has been reengineered and improved to overcome this issue with the mechanism at this stage.
